Award-Winning Apprentice Harry Cooper Showcases Exceptional Trade Skills 2026

Level 3 Plumbing and Heating Apprentice Harry Cooper was picked to represent Abingdon and witney College in the 2026 Trade Skills Competition.
​
​Learners were challenged to complete complex copper pipework tasks, involving accurate tube bending, Passovers, crank sets and soldering techniques.  The competition not only tested technical ability, but also planning, precision, problem solving and safe working practices.  Participants had 4 hours to complete the task with judges focusing on the quality and professionalism of their work.

Harry came first in the Apprentice Group, He was congratulated by Paul Starkey,  Abingdon and witney Colleges Vice principle, on his effort, professionalism and commitment throughout the day.

​Renelec Apprentices Make a Lasting Impact in Tanzania with Projects Abroad

Renelec Group are working with Projects Abroad, the global leader in organising volunteer and internship placements in the developing world. Since its founding, Projects Abroad has empowered over 135,000 participants across 23 countries — Renelec send 4 Aplumbing Apprentices to Tanzania in February 2026.

This 10-day trip for four of our 3rd/4th year apprentices involved hands-on work alongside local communities, including:

• Plumbing nine toilets at a local daycare school
• Digging trenches and laying water pipes to improve sanitation and access to clean water
• Engaging with children, teaching basic English and playing sports to support their development

The experience not only contributed meaningfully to the community in Tanzania but also provide invaluable personal and professional development for all the participants.
The Apprentices also got to experience an African Safari,  a trip to a snake farm and a Trip to a coffee plantation.
